Blazers are a part of many of our wardrobes. For some they may have just been a piece of a suit. Something that you wear to interviews or in a business professional setting. They can bring to mind a stuffy maybe even boring outfit. You may not see them as an item that can be worn casually or something that you would want to integrate into your weekend wardrobe. I’m sharing today how to style a blazer with jeans.
My favorite way to wear blazers is with jeans. I like the mixture of dressy and casual items and how easy it can be to put together. It is a way to dress up so many of your items and give them a new life. T-shirts can be dressed up and when paired with a blazer. I wear this combo to work a lot but that is only the beginning. Brunch, dinner, date night, drinks with friends… there are so many blazer and jean outfit combinations that can be created and worn for almost any occasion.
How to Style a Blazer with Jeans
Blazers and jeans are a simple combination but there a few things to keep in mind when styling a blazer with jeans. With these basic guidelines and ideas, you’ll be set to create a ton of blazer and jean outfits. Don’t be afraid to think outside the typical neutral colors. While they are classic for a reason, navy and black blazers aren’t your only options to pair with jeans. I base the type of jeans on two factors: the fit of my blazer and the occasion I’m dressing for.
Blazer Fit
I like to find a balance between my blazers and denim. Although almost any blazer can be styled with jeans, the style I most often wear is the boyfriend fit. This blazer style is a bit oversized and longer. To balance the look I like to stick with a skinny or straight leg jean. It keeps everything refined and compliments the blazer.
Fitted blazers look great with any fit of denim. They will look really streamlined with a straight or skinny fit. If you like wide leg or boyfriend cut jeans, fitted blazers can look great paired with them. This look also creates a trendy silhouette.
Occasion
The dressier the event, the darker, more professional the wash of my jeans will be. For work or nicer events, I choose darker wash jeans. Dark blue and even black jeans look really classy and chic. They look more professional and put together and lend themselves to a fancier vibe.
When I don’t need to look as professional I will wear lighter washed jeans. Lighter washes dress down the blazer and will make your look feel more relaxed. They lend themselves to more casual shoes as well. But this is all a guide, you can truly mix and match as you please!
Blazer and Denim with a T-shirt
Denim – Custom Blazer – T-shirt – Heels
When coming up with blazer and jeans outfit ideas one of the easiest combinations is a white t-shirt. A great fitting t-shirt isn’t too casual for a blazer. In fact, I love the mixture of casual and dressy items. A slim fit t-shirt is the most flattering, no matter what style of blazer you choose. Like in the pic above, I love the simplicity and chicness of this combination. I chose a blush blazer and light denim for my version. Add a pair of heels and you have a casual work or happy hour outfit. I like the simplicity of a some gold jewelry and a chic handbag. To take it more casual, switch out the heels for a trendy sneaker.
This combination works on all it’s own but can a palette for some statement accessories. A bold shoe, earring, necklace or even lip color can transform the outfit and make it bold. You can showcase a favorite accessory.
Another way to switch up this combination is to make it dark! Take some dark wash or black denim and pair it with an equally dark blazer. Keep the shirt white or made it dark too. A band tee or some other novelty t-shirt would be cute too! Basically there are a ton of combinations you can create with this simple formula.
Blazer with Distressed Denim
Blazer – Jeans – Purse – Heels
With all the different blazer and jeans outfits, distressed denim typically doesn’t come to mind. This is the ultimate high and low end mix and takes a bit of thought when putting it together. The biggest tip is to keep all other parts of your outfit polished. What this doesn’t mean is that they have be be dressy. The items should fit well and not be oversized or distressed as well. Another tip is to keep the distressed denim to skinny or straight leg jeans. These cuts are both ones that fit well and are more put together. So they offset the distressed aspect of the denim.
Distressed denim is not office appropriate but there are still plenty of occasions to wear this combination: drinks or dinner with friends, date night and brunch. To take the look into summer style with a heeled sandal like any of these.
