All this month I keep talking about how it is almost Springtime, well I think Spring is officially here! Spring style is always about lightening up your wardrobe and adding color. Although Spring weather is notoriously inconsistent, when we get moments of warm weather I am always so excited to wear Spring dresses and tops. For today’s post, I am sharing a roundup of Spring fashion tips and how to make the best of your wardrobe during this season.
In this post I talked thru tips on how to transition your wardrobe from Winter to Spring. The tips help you navigate the time between seasons, especially if you are ready to wear Spring clothes but the weather isn’t cooperating.
11 Spring Fashion Tips
Invest in Spring Staples
A few key pieces can be the basis of so many great Spring outfits. I am always talking about investing in quality versatile pieces. These are the items you’ll wear year after year. I have a full post with tips on how to decide what to invest in. For the Spring my recommendation on investment pieces are: Lightweight blazer, white jeans, heeled sandals and crossbody bag. First of all, you can style all of these pieces together and just need a white tee to have a complete outfit. But you will truly believe they are worth the investment when you see the versatility of spring outfits that you can create.
Blazers are a stylish piece year-round, but adding in one in a light fabric and/or color makes them better for warmer weather. A linen blazer is still dressy enough for an office setting but also go with a white tee, midi skirt or even jeans shorts! In this post, I talk about how great white jeans are for transitioning your wardrobe from Winter to Spring but they will take you into Summer!
The thing I love the most about heeled sandals is how they are more versatile than regular heels. Like the blazer, they’ll work in dressy moments or an office but can also be cute with shorts, rompers and casual dresses. A great neutral pair will last you years.
Play with Layers
Spring style is really all about layers. To stay comfortable in the weather, having the option to add or take a layer from your outfit will make you more comfortable during the day. Jackets are my top tip for layers. They are easy to add and can really elevate a look too. It’s not just practical. In this post, I have put together the best jackets of the season and how to style them. Some of my favorites are denim jackets or light leather jackets. Other great layer options are layering your t-shirts under shorter sleeves or spaghetti strap tops.
Style Midi Dresses
Truly one of the stars of Spring outfits is the midi dress. There are so many options that having a few in your wardrobe will be a great asset for Spring. I would recommend having a casual one that you like to style with flats, tennis shoes or sandals and a dressier option too. Many look really cute with denim jackets too.
Style a T-Shirt
Quality tees do not get the recognition they deserve. I recommend having at least one high-quality, well-fitting white tee and one black tee. Having other neutral colors can also be an asset to your wardrobe. A well-fitting white tee can flatter and be a reliable way to start creating an outfit when you need outfit ideas.
Their versatility comes from how they can make dressier pieces items a bit more casual without losing their polish. For example, a midi skirt and black or white tee is such a cute Spring outfit and can go well with lots of spring shoes!
Add a Pair of Trousers
An often overlooked wardrobe item is a great trouser. They aren’t just for business casual looks. Trousers are a great option to grab instead of jeans. This season they are so many options in different fabrics and colors. They also come in many cut options like jeans do. Trousers are another great option for the basic tees I mentioned above. For spring style, I love linen or cotton trousers in white or light colors. Wide-leg pants are really popular this season and really comfortable when there is warmer weather. Trousers can be the statement piece or just compliment your favorite tops.
Denim Everything
Denim is the fabric of Spring to me. Not just your trusty jeans but also denim dresses, tops, jackets etc. Chambray probably comes to mind when you think of a denim shirt. A chambray shirt is one of the first things I pull out when warmer weather hits. You can wear them open with a tank or crop underneath or button them up and tuck them into skirts, shorts or cute trousers. I even love chambray paired with white denim for a stylish take of denim on denim.
Whenever I need an outfit idea, I always go for a denim dress. They are another versatile piece for your wardrobe. Pick a style of dress that you normally wear but just get it in denim. I love a denim shirt dress with tennis shoes for an elevated take on weekend casual.
Mix and Match Prints
Spring style obviously brings out the floral prints. It is hard not to have at least a few floral items in your closet! I also always see more polka dot and striped items once warmer weather comes too. For a new take on florals pair them with another printed item. To make the look work, keep both prints in similar color stories. Also one print should be small and then one larger.
Change Up Your Accessories
While you don’t have to change every aspect of your wardrobe for Spring, a few fun accessories can add versatility to your wardrobe! The obvious change in accessories is items that are lighter or brighter in color but Spring accessories can be more than that. Think about lighter fabrics as well. Linen, rattan and chiffon are softer fabrics that lend themselves to warmer weather. Shoes, purses, scarves and even jewelry come in these fabrics.
Add More Color
Winter lends itself to darker and more neutral wardrobe items. I am sure I’m not the only one that finds themselves wearing a lot of black during the Winter! As Spring weather appears, I find myself craving color.
This season bright bold colors are a huge trend and I couldn’t be more excited. If you don’t know how to integrate them in your wardrobe or are a bit intimidated by them, start slow. Just replicate an outfit you already wear but swap out one item for a version in a bright saturated color. Your outfit will instantly look Spring ready!
Stock Up on Button Downs
Button downs aren’t just for Spring but I always consider them a closet staple this time of year. They make a great layer to add to a Spring outfit. You can wear them open and over other tops almost like a jacket. This year both fitted and oversized ones are in style and make a great addition to your wardrobe.
A full-proof outfit idea for a Spring button-down is to style with denim shorts, a belt and open backslides. Cuff or roll the sleeves to add more style. Then layer on several gold necklaces and add your favorite crossbody bag. If it is too cool for shorts, then pants are great too!
Try a Matching Set
Matching sets have been a big trend for Spring and Summer the past few years. Whether it’s a top with a skirt, shorts or pants they are chic outfit options. Need outfit ideas? Like a dress, a matching set is a full outfit in one. But you can also pair the pieces separately. Pair the top with trousers or jeans or shorts and then pair the bottoms with a white tee or chambray. I tend to pack a matching set when I travel because I know I’ll have lots of styling options with fewer items.
Styling a matching set is really fun! Many of them are pretty neutral so they allow you to add some bold accessories. I particularly love a bold sandal with matching sets and then a pretty crossbody bag.
