I was not as good at making time to read this Month as I was in January and February. I didn’t have enough for a full post this month so I added a few I have read in the last year. For all of my book reviews click here.
The Tattoist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris
No matter how many stories I read about the Holocaust, I know I’ll never be able to truly understand the horrors that happened. This book gives the true account of Lale Sokolov, a slovakian jew who is sent to the horrific concentration camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau. A prisoner for over two and a half years, Lale does everything he can to survive. He even risks his life to trade jewels for extra food for him and his friends. Because he can speak several languages, Lale becomes the official tatowierer of the camp. Lale tattoos thousands of prisoners with their prisoner number. One woman, particularly scared when she approaches him to get her tattoo, catches his eye and he vows to survive the war and marry her. Although he witnesses some of the worst moments in humanity, this story also shows strength and bravery. I shed some tears along the way too. Grade: A
