Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Review

I love all things beauty, but I don’t actually try new makeup products that often. I know what works for me and don’t changes things up too much. If you follow me on instagram or have seen many of my posts here, you’ll notice I wear a pretty similar makeup look all the time. The only thing I really change up is my lip colors (see my favorites here)! Late last year I was looking for a new eyeliner to wear. I wanted something that was easy to use and was a little softer looking than black liner. After some research, I tried Laura Mercier’s Caviar Sticks.

What are Caviar Sticks?

The creamy caviar sticks are a cross between a cream eyeshadow stick and an eyeliner. The applicator is a a creamy twist up stick. While the stick is thicker than the average liner you can still get a pretty small line when that is what you want. The consistency is smooth and soft too. It easily glides on and stays on. The caviar sticks don’t need any special applicators for it either. You can glide it on straight from the stick. If you want to blend, you can easily do it with your fingers or an eyeliner brush. Once it is on, it stays really well!

There are so many color options & finishes in the caviar stick. They come in shimmer, matte and metallic finishes. You can find plenty of options for every skin tone. The dark colors like Cocoa, Khaki and Plum lend themselves as a liner or for a smokey eye look. They provide lots of color and definition to your eyes. For a simpler everyday color or something more au naturel I love Amethyst or Moonlight. They’ll look pretty as a liner or all over as an eyeshadow.

If you like more natural make up looks, I highly recommend the matt caviar sticks. Caramel and blossom create a beautiful matte eyes look. They’ll blend together to add definition to your eyes but still look really natural.

No matter the color, the sticks give a medium level of color. Definitely enough that one layer provides plenty of color and coverage. But you have the option to blend it out or build the color darker. I feel like I have more control with products that have this type of color payoff.

How I Wear Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks

I am definitely not a makeup expert so I love a product that is easy to use! Each caviar stick delivers effortless application and glides on your eyes. Because of their versatility, there are plenty of caviar stick eye looks you can create. For my everyday eye makeup look, I apply amethyst at my lash line straight from the stick. I go back and forth twice to get a fairly pigmented line. This isn’t about being perfect, you are looking to create a smudged line. Then I use my finger to blend up and out on the liner. This gives me a hybrid eyeliner and shadow look.

When I want a more defined, liner look, I use the cocoa caviar stick. This color looks good on so many skin tones. I apply it along my lash line and try to keep the line pretty thin and focus more of the color towards the outside of my eyes. Using this liner brush, (reviewed here) I blend cocoa to the inner corner of my eye.

For an easy take on the smokey eye look, start with one of the medium or darker colors. Apply a thin layer of the caviar stick on your eyelid from the crease to the lash line. Blend it with your fingers or a brush, focusin on more color towards the outside. Then take the same color or a coordinating darker color, and apply it as liner. Go back and forth across your lash line to get a lot of pigment. Finally take a bit of the darker color and apply along the outside of your lid and blend it in towards the middle. Since all of the sticks are buildable color you can customize the classic smokey to fit your skin tone.

Now that I have used the caviar sticks for awhile, I a can give an honest review. Whether I want a classic smokey eye or something more au naturel, they have made their place in my makeup routine. I use them almost every day. Their ease of application is first and foremost why I love them. Whether you smudge, blend, line, fill or define your eyes with them, it is hard to mess them up!

The color payoff and finishes are another reason I love them. The shimmer finishes have just enough color to catch the light but aren’t too much for an every day look. The metallic finishes are very special and a little goes a long way!

Shopping for Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks

I highly recommend getting a darker and lighter color that go well together. This will give you the most versatility with looks. As I shared earlier cocoa is a really great color. It is dark enough to be a liner but can be blended out as an eyeshadow too. Rose Gold & strapless are beautiful light colors.
