The heat is here which means the Summer is here. It gets to the point this time of year that the blazing sun makes it difficult to be outside even for a few minutes without being uncomfortable. I don’t do well in the heat and try my best to avoid it. But there are things you can do to make the best of it! Today I’m sharing some of my best tips on how to beat the Summer heat and still look stylish.
How to Beat Summer Heat & Still Look Stylish
Focus on Light Fabrics
In the Summer heat it is time for light breathable fabrics. Think cotton, linen and even light denim and chambray. Their breathability is crucial in hot and humid temperatures. They also are lighter on your body so they won’t feel as hot. Think cotton tops, linen pants and dresses.
Pick Looser Fitting Clothing
Not only does the fabric of the clothing worn matter but also the fit. To stay cool this summer think looser when putting together an outfit. Looser clothing doesn’t mean sloppy and you can still look put together. Think wide leg pants, oversized button downs, flowy dresses etc. If you want your look to be a bit more fitted, balance something looser with something fitted, like a belt. My favorite summer outfit is wide leg linen pants and a loose short sleeve chambray shirt tucked in. Since the shirt is tucked in, it creates shape and flatters me.
Top Off Your Look With a Hat
I knew hats were a good way to beat the heat but up until this Summer, I would only wear them when I was a the pool. Hats can protect you from the sun rays which helps with sun damage but it also keeps you cool! When your head is cool, everything else feels better and your body temperature regulate as well. The best part about a hat is how much they can add to an outfit. Hats are an accessory that really can make an outfit pop.
When you are wearing athleisure a baseball cap is the perfect choice. A floppy wide brimmed hat looks really chic with dresses, linen pants and your swimsuit!
Wear Your Hair Up
Anyone with hair longer than shoulder length hair knows that it can contribute to how hot you feel. To stay cool style your hair up! Ponytails are always a fun and flirty option. You can add a scrunchie or embellished ponytail holder to them. Buns, high or low, look really pulled together and work both casually or dressed up. With 90’s trends coming back, claw clips have made a huge comeback. They are the easiest way to put your hair up! To elevate the look, some fun hair accessories can also contribute to your style.
Lighten Up Your Beauty Routine
Keep it simple! On a hot day makeup can easily slide off your face. Since that isn’t something any of us want, it is important to use the right products. Lighten up your morning routine by using a lighter moisturizer and let it fully soak in before you put on any makeup. Keep makeup light and avoid anything too creamy. Creams tend to move and wear off easily in the Summer heat. Stick to lighter products and powders. If you do use a cream or liquid, set it lightly with a powder.
I usually use the summer heat as an excuse to wear as little makeup as possible. I skip foundation and just start with Supergoop Glowscreen and then use a light concealer and set with this powder. Finish with a powder blush!
Use a Facial Spray
A facial spray does several things. First, it actually cools you off. Most of the sprays have ingredients that refresh and cool you down. They feel so good on a hot day. The spray helps hydrate your skin from the outside. Even if you stay inside, air conditioning can dry out the air which in turn dries out your skin. So any way you can help your skin stay hydrated is a benefit. They can also kind of reset and refresh your makeup. A light mist can help you look refreshed.
Stay Hydrated
Water, water, water!!! Staying hydrated is obviously crucial all the time. But in the Summer heat it is even more important because it helps regulate your body temperature. It is also so much easier to get dehydrated when it is hot out. Excessive sweating can easily cause dehydration. One thing that helps me stay hydrated is to have a large water bottle or tumbler (this one is my fav) at my desk at all times. I also like to use a sugar free water flavor mix to change things up.
Limit Time in the Sun
Not only is it good to avoid the sun because of the skin damage it can cause, but the summer heat can cause a lot of problems to your body too. Overheating can cause excessive sweating which can cause dehydration. Exerting yourself in the heat is also a big contributor to heat exhaustive. All of these things are really hard on the body. During the especially hot days limit your time in the sun. If that isn’t possible try to get some shade. Just being in the shade can prevent your body temperature from rising as much.
Utilize the Mornings
When you do need to be outside to do anything in the Summer, try to make the most of the mornings. I am not a morning person at all but I’ve learned to appreciate them. It allows me to enjoy the outdoors and stay cool doing things that I wouldn’t be able to do when the Summer heat hits later in the day.
