I give a lot of skincare recommendations and definitely like to try the newest products. But today’s post features something you can do to benefit your skin but isn’t another product! Sounds too good to be true, right? Facial steaming is exactly what it sounds like, applying steam to your face. Facial steaming has lots of benefits, is easy to do and doesn’t have to cost anything. Today’s post is about all the benefits of facial steaming and how you can do it at home.
Facial Steaming Benefits
If you have ever had a facial, you have probably had your face steamed. You may wonder if facial steaming is beneficial.
Hydration
Steam pushes water into your skin, hydrating it. The extra hydration will plump your skin. Extra hydration is good for the health of your skin.
Deep Cleansing
Steam opens up your pore while also loosening up the dirt and impurities in them. It also helps to release excess oil and acne bacteria. This all results with a deeper clean that just a cleanser can do.
Skincare Products Work Better
Steam increases the permeability of your skin. Any serums, treatments, masks etc. that you apply to your skin after steaming will absorb better and penetrate deeper. Which results in them working better. Also, the cleaner your skin is the better other products will work as well!
Promotes Circulation
The heat from steaming promotes an increase to your circulation. Better circulation assists your skin in healing and gives you a healthy glow.
Helps Sinuses
Have you ever taken a steamy, hot shower when you are sick and feel better after? Steaming your face will do the same thing. The warmth helps open up your sinuses with can release sinus pressure and alleviate congestion. I love to steam my face when my allergies are particularly bad and bothering me.
Relaxing
Just a few minutes can really relax and calm you. The heat is soothing and just taking a few minutes for yourself to steam your face can really reset your mind and give you time to relax.
How to Steam Your Face
Unlike some skincare treatments facial steaming can be done at home. Facial steaming only needs to be done once a week at most. The quickest and easiest way is to use a facial steamer. This is the one I have and I really love it! It is usually on sale, so its pretty affordable. The steamer is easy to use and heats up quickly. You can even add in essential oils to make the experience even more spa like. And who doesn’t love that?
If you don’t want to commit to a facial steamer you can make one yourself. Fill up a bowl with really hot water (not boiling). Place your face over the bowl and then cover your head with a towel. This will trap the steam in and work just like a facial steamer does.
For either option, start with clean skin. Then steam your face for up to 10 minutes. Once you are done, gently pat in the excess moisture on your skin. If you are going for the full facial experience, then apply a mask next (see my favorites here). If you are just doing your regular skincare routine, apply your serum and follow up with a moisturizer. That is it! Steaming is really that easy and your skin will be so soft! I have to stop myself from just feeling my face after (don’t want to cause break outs!).
