Summer is here and it brought with it the Summer heat. Oklahoma is currently in triple digits and will be for the next few weeks. Even if it isn’t quite that hot where you are, the warmth in temps has us all making changes to our wardrobe and how we dress everyday. One thing you may not be considering when you are picking out outfits is a blazer. Actually, a blazer is a closet staple that can be worn year-round and it is possible to wear one in the hot Summer and still be comfortable. In this post, I am sharing tips on how to wear a blazer in the Summer.

How to Wear a Blazer in the Summer

Styling a blazer outside of a corporate environment can seem tough but they are my favorite ways to style them. It really showcases your own personal style. Starting with a great blazer is key. Pick Blazers in Light Fabrics

Fabric choice is a crucial factor when styling a blazer in the Summer. A linen blazer is probably the most common blazer that comes to mind. Linen is a cool breathable fabric and is great for a blazer. While it can wrinkle, that is part of its charm. Light cotton is also a great option. Look for a blazer that has cotton in the fabric and isn’t just polyester.

Stick to Lighter Neutrals or Bright Colors

Lighter neutrals or bright colors give a blazer Summer vibes. This is not an absolute rule but if you are worried your outfit doesn’t look appropriate for the season, switch out a darker blazer for something lighter. For neutral colors think camel, white, cream and light grey! As far as bright colors, go crazy! Hot pink and bright yellow are two really fun options.

Pair with Light Layers

Like other Summer outfits, light layers make wearing a blazer in the Summer more comfortable. Like the blazer itself, light breathable fabrics are the best options for pieces you style with a blazer. Sleeveless tops make the best options to layer under a blazer.

Add a Bright Accessory

Summer is a time for bright colors. When thinking about how to wear a blazer, consider bright accessories. Obviously they instantly add a pop of color to any outfit. They bright color can also help an otherwise non-summery piece look appropriate for the season. A blazer in a color that is normally thought of as Fall or Winter can work with the right styling, including adding something bright.

Blazer & Denim Shorts

The easiest way to make a blazer Summer appropriate is to pair with shorts. This look would be a cute date night outfit. Denim shorts (see my favs here) while very casual work great with blazers. They give a casual cool vibe to the look. This combination can be done 100s of different ways. You can add a graphic t-shirt to feel more relaxed. A pretty blouse will add femininity to the look.

Blazer & Linen Pants

Linen pants are an absolute closet staple for Summer outfits! They can be dressy or casual and are beyond comfortable. While you may think pants are too hot for the warmest Summer months, linen is breathable and breezy so you’ll still be comfortable in pants. When you wear a blazer with linen it instantly looks warm weather ready. This styling works for so many situations. I love this look with a cute crop top to make it fashion forward. This would be another cute date night look.

Blazer & Slip Dress

Slip dresses are one of my absolute favorite pieces right now. They look good on everyone and are comfortable while still being a little sexy. To elevate the look add a chic blazer in a complimentary color and bonus points if it is linen. The blazer can make a dress appropriate for a casual work look. It also looks great for a brunch outfit or even a chic date night look. To balance this outfit have either the dress or the blazer as a neutral and the other bring some color. You can add an extra pop with one bright accessory like this purse! It looks so much more expensive than it actually is.

Blazer with White Jeans

White denim can be worn year round but it is an essential during Spring and Summer. White denim is classic and a great item to style with trendier pieces or other statement items. This double-breasted blazer could easily look too heavy for Summer but white denim lightens it.

If you aren’t sure a blazer is your style, I recommend pairing it with a graphic t-shirt. They keep the look more casual and you can really express your style with the blazer. This look is a great weekend look or casual Friday outfit.

Blazer with Khaki Shorts

Khaki shorts aren’t just for preppy looks they have really been a big trend lately. They are a great neutral piece for so many looks. Bright colors especially look good with khaki. The bright color of this blazer really makes a statement. To keep the look from looking preppy, pair it with some fun accessories. A platform sandal is another big trend this Summer. They add glam to any look.
