Traveling has really started again! If you don’t have a trip planned yet, I’m going to bet you’ve been thinking about planning one. Although airline travel is the most efficient it has its own challenges including figuring out what to wear for the flight. There are a lot of things to consider when picking out an airport outfit. The seats can be cramped and it’s hard to predict what the temperature will be. Also, your destination climate can be very different than the climate of where you started. Since your airport outfit can truly make or break your flight experience, in this post I’ve put together the best outfits for airline travel.
The Best Outfits for Airline Travel
Maxi Dress and Flat Sandals
If your destination is warm, nothing beats a maxi dress and sandals. The dress is comfortable and easy to move in. The fabric is light enough that you won’t get hot on a warm plane or airport. On the other side, if you end up on a flight that is cold, the long dress will keep your legs covered and a little warmer than they would be. Maxi dresses are also an easy outfit that looks really pulled together.
Leggings and Oversized Shirt
Most of us have comfort as a number one priority for our perfect travel outfit. An oversized shirt is a really versatile item and can be a great piece for traveling. Paired with leggings and flats, the shirt is comfortable but still stylish. If your destination is a city or somewhere not too hot, this is one of my favorite outfits. You can drop your luggage off and have a great outfit to do site seeing or grab lunch!
Athleisure Dress and Sweatshirt
An athleisure dress like this one is a great mix of the comfort of athleisure but a bit dressed up! It can be worn alone or with a t-shirt, sweatshirt, jacket etc. While it is short, the dress has built in shorts so you are covered and will be comfortable. I wore this on my last flight and really appreciated the shorts when I had to sit on the floor because the terminal was packed!
Leggings, Jean Jacket and Graphic T-Shirt
Whether you get cold easily or your destination is colder than where you started, layers are really helpful. Start with comfortable leggings and a graphic t-shirt. These leggings are my absolute favorite. They are soft, comfortable, supportive and have pockets. The pockets come in super handy when traveling. Then add some comfortable tennis shoes. Add in a jacket that you’ll need for the trip. This helps keep a big item out of your luggage, so you have room. Just keep in mind that any time you wear a jacket you need to make sure it is easily removable so you don’t have any trouble getting thru airport security.
Mix and match items to recreate this look in a ton of different ways. Change up the jacket, shoes and graphic t-shirt.
Full on Athleisure look
Head-to-toe athleisure is a popular airport look. It is probably the most comfortable way to go and is one of the best when your travel day is really long. Athleisure still looks fresh and doesn’t wrinkle after a long day and any chance to wear leggings is a good one. Start with your favorite leggings. Next add in a sports bra and comfortable tank top and if needed finish with a jacket. Athleisure comes in all colors, but I personally like keeping the looks monochromatic. It’s easier to put together quickly and always looks good together.
Joggers, White T-shirt and Tennis Shoes
One step that feels like athleisure but is a step away from it is joggers. A great pair like these can be comfortable but also dressed up depending on what it is styled with. For an airport outfit add a comfortable white t-shirt and trendy sneakers to look cute and comfortable. This outfit can be a great option if you will be sight seeing or running errands etc. right after the flight. It also doesn’t wrinkle like a sundress or or something else may. This outfit also layers well too. If you need to stay warm, add a sweatshirt or even a light sweater. A leather jacket also dresses up joggers!
Matching Button Down and Shorts
Not only is this one of the biggest Summer trends but it makes a great travel outfit. This look is a button down shirt and matching pull on short. Whether it is solid, stripes or a crazy print the matching sets are cute and comfortable. The look is intentionally oversized so it is super comfortable but it still looks really pulled together. These pieces can also be mixed and matched with items that you pack so you can wear them again on your trip.
