How I shop for a LBD

It’s a classic for a reason, a little black dress is something everyone needs in their closet. It is the type of piece that can be pulled out of your closet for so many situation: weddings, showers, events, cocktail parties and work! 

I recently purchased a new LBD for an event this weekend. With so many black dresses out there, it may seem a bit overwhelming to find the right one. My first step is identifying fits that flatter me. This can be hard sometimes but when I’m stuck I think about the clothes I already own that flatter my figure. It came down to these details for me: fitted bottom, v or scoop neck, flattering shape on stomach, and possibly sleeves. 

How I keep LBDs from being boring is finding ones with one or two interesting details. Still keeping the dress simple just a few special touches can add to the LBD. Those will set it apart and add your personal style. I find that I am drawn to interesting sleeve details but there are so many ways to make a LBD special!

Based on what I was looking for, I found this puff sleeve dress. From this post, I shared that I love puff sleeves! The sleeves add such drama to the dress and make a statement. It is the first thing you notice about the dress and what I received so many compliments on.

When you combine the puff sleeves and fitted waist, the dress creates an hourglass figure even if you don’t have one. Don’t let this fitted dress scare you, the ruching and ruffles on the front add a bit of forgiveness to the dress!
