Sequins are really never a bad idea! They make everything more fun and festive! Whether it is a few sequins or a whole outfit, they make an outfit feel more special. I shared a bunch of my favorite sparkly items in this post. Last year I had my eyes on a sequin duster but didn’t buy it before it sold out. Lucky for me that it came out again this year! I grabbed it early in November so I could wear it for both my birthday and the Holidays. I love how versatile this item is so in today’s post I’m sharing 4 Ways To Style A Sequin Duster.

4 Ways To Style A Sequin Duster

At first, the juxtaposition of a dressy fabric in a casual cut seems like it would be difficult to style. But it actually makes the duster more versatile because it can work in both dressy and casual outfits. Whichever direction you go, keep the items under it slim fitting. You don’t want bulk under the long duster.

Dressy Ways to Style a Sequin Duster

This first outfit is one I wore to dinner on my birthday. I wanted something full glam and ready for a night out. To dress up the sequin duster, I kept everything monochrome and let the sequin duster be the main focus. Even when everything is all one color, you can keep it interesting by picking items with different materials. Denim, velvet and patent fabrics create layers of texture to the outfit.

A sequin duster can up the glam factor to your little black dress. In this post I talked about how a black dress is such a great investment. A sequin duster can add new life to a dress you’ve worn many times. For this outfit, layer it over a slim or straight cut dress. A dress with too much volume will overwhelm the duster. Then add a strappy heel or bootie. With all the sparkle from the duster you don’t need a lot of accessories. I like a simple earring and/or ring with just a bit of sparkle. To add more interest without distracting from the duster, a solid color clutch in leather tops off the look.

This outfit would work for several occasions this time of year. I love it as an option for a wedding or dressy New Year’s eve party.

Casual Ways to Style a Sequin Duster

There is no better way to accessorized your basic t-shirt and jeans than with this duster. It may seem a little out of your comfort zone to add something so glam to casual basics. Once you try it, I bet you’ll love it and find new ways to style it. You could switch the white t-shirt for a graphic t-shirt as another option.

For an edgier but casual look you can take the idea of the first dressy outfit but make it casual. Start with a black legging of some kind. It could be a ponte knit or leather legging (see how else to wear them here) then layer a casual shirt. It could be a t-shirt like above, a graphic shirt or even a crop. This look is similar to the formula above but instead of a tennis shoes, wear combat boots or other flat boots. I love this pair! Add a leather crossbody bag and push up the sleeves of the duster.
